AIIMS Exam


AIIMS (All Indian Institute of Medical Science) is an exam, which is conducted for admissions to DM/MCh/ MHA/Ph.D programs. This exam is conducted under the surveillance of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. The institute was established in year 1956. AIIMS specializes in educating several development patterns in Medical education.

Eligibility Criteria for DM/MCh/ MHA

  •  A Candidate should possess a degree in MD/MS or DNB from a University recognized by the MCI.
  • The candidates, who are much likely to complete 3 years requisite period and degree by 30th January, 2013 may also apply. However, the candidates who complete their 3 years requisite tenure after 30th January, 2013 will not be eligible to take up this examination.
  •  A certificate issued by District Magistrate in support of the general practice claimed, should be enclosed with the application. 
  • The candidate must have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in all professional examinations for other category including OBC category and 50% for candidate belonging to SCs/STs.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D

A candidate seeking the admission to the course leading to the award of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must possess at least one of the below  qualifications of a recognized University/Institute: 
  • degree of Master of Sciences or Master's degree in any subject in ally to Bio Medical Sciences or Master's Degree in Nursing with minimum 60% marks or Master of Surgery or Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree or Diplomat of the National Board of Examinations.
  • MBBS degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in the professional examinations.

How to Apply for AIIMS DM/MCh/ MHA

  • A candidate seeking admission through the Entrance Examination is required to submit his/her application in the said format available online with the Prospectus on website www.aiimsexams.org. The cost of Application Form includes the fee for entrance examination, which is non-refundable, and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
  • The Prospectus-cum-application fee is Rs. 1000/- for general category candidates and Rs 800/- in case of SC/ST candidates.
  • Candidates can apply online by filling in the online application made available on AIIMS’s official website: www.aiimsexams.org. Candidates can pay the application fee through a challan form (generated from the internet while applying online) in any branch of State Bank of India(S.B.I).
  • Prospectus can also be achieved by hand from the Reception Counter of examination Section, AIIMS against Bank DD for Rs.1000/- (general&OBC candidates) and Rs.800/-(SC&ST candidates) drawn in favor of the Accounts Officer (Exams), AIIMS-MBBS payable at New Delhi.
  • Candidates are required to bring the AIIMS copy of Challan Form to the Examination Hall on the day of Examination and deposit the same with Invigilator at the time of attendance.
  • Candidates don’t have to send any documents, including Registration slip to AIIMS.

How to Apply for AIIMS for PH.D

  • The Candidates, who are likely to complete requisite qualifications and degree by 27th February, 2012 may also apply. However, the candidates who are completing their qualification after 27th February, 2012 are not eligible to take up this examination.
  • Candidates working in Central Government/Semi-Govt./Autonomous Organizations should submit their Applications (downloaded copy of the Registration Slip) through proper channel i.e. Employer. They will be required to submit a 'No Objection Certificate' (N.O.C) from their employer before they are allowed to take the entrance examination of Ph.D. Course at AIIMS.
  • Applicants of AIIMS i.e. Faculty/Scientific Staff for Ph. D. registration will be considered as  an in-service candidates as per guidelines laid down by AIIMS.
  • A candidate is allowed to submit application for one specialty/ department only.
  • Admission to Ph.D. Course will be subject to availability of research funds/fellowship/grant from recognized funding agencies. The admission will be finalized and offer will be sent to the candidate only when evidence of availability of research funds/grant/fellowship for the project is submitted by the selected candidate through the concerned Head of the Department.

Paper Pattern for AIIMS D.M/M.Ch/ MHA/Ph.D 2013

  • Written test carries 80 marks of 90 minutes duration in the subject, the candidate has applied for.
  • The question paper will consist of 50 theory based Multiple Choice Questions and 30 clinical/practical/lab based Short Answer Questions (SAQs)/MCQs.
  • Each correct (MCQ) answer will be awarded one mark and each wrong (MCQ) answer will be awarded one-third  negative mark.
  • More than one answer will be treated as wrong answer and will be awarded negative mark. No mark will be given for questions not answered.
