Marine Engineering & Research Institute also known as MERI, was established at the time of Independence in 1947 to satisfy the growing need of marine engineers here in India. The Institution was earlier named as Directorate of Marine Engineering Training had its headquarter in Calcutta and a branch at Mumbai, under Ministry of Shipping (Government of India). The Institute has been renamed to Marine Engineering and Research Institute in the year 1994.

Admissions are done through JEE Mains only. It is compulsory to give the JEE Mains for entry into MERI.
Candidates are admitted to these institutes for admission for:

  • 3-year course for B.Sc. in (Nautical Sciences) degree at T.S. Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • 4-year course for Marine Engineering degree at Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata, West Bengal.
  • 3-year course for Polyvalent B.Sc. in (Maritime Sciences) degree at Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai, Maharashtra.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MERI

  • Candidates should have passed class (10 + 2) examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English.
    Date of Birth: for candidates belonging to General & OBC categories, they must have be born on or after 1st of October, 1987 and those belonging to SC & ST categories must be born on or after 1st of October, 1982.

HOW TO APPLY:

  • Offline mode:

Application form along with information brochure providing the details of the Training program at the above three Institutes, Medical standards, etc. can be obtained from the following designated branches of the Syndicate Bank all over the country by paying Rs. 1000 for General / OBC categories and Rs.800 for SC / ST categories.

The application form along with information brochure shall be obtained by post from the Indian Institute of Maritime Studies, T.S Chanakya campus, Karave, Navi Mumbai, 400706, by the due date by sending a self addressed envelope of 11'x5" size with stamps worth Rs.35 along with a D.D of Rs.1000 (General / OBC categories) and 800/- (SC/ST categories), drawn in favor of Indian Institute of Maritime Studies and payable at Mumbai, Maharashtra.

  • MERI 2013 application form along with MERI 2013 information brochure can be downloaded from the website www.imu.tn.nic.in. Downloaded application forms are to be submitted along with the DD of 1000/- (General / OBC category) and 600/- ( SC / ST category ) drawn in favor of "Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Campus" payable at Mumbai.
